COPYRIGHT & SHAREWARE STATEMENT
DIZVIEW is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
find this program useful and find that you are using DIZVIEW and
continue to use DIZVIEW after a trial period not to exceed 30 days, you
must make a registration payment of $15 to LINCOLN BEACH SOFTWARE.
The $15 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a book.
An example is that this software may be used by any number of people and
may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as
there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's
being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different
persons at the same time.
Corporate users of DIZVIEW must register and pay for their copies
by departments and site-License arrangements may be made by contacting
LINCOLN BEACH SOFTWARE.
You are encouraged to pass a copy of DIZVIEW along to your friends
for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they
find that they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy
of the latest version of the DIZVIEW system.
This software and documentation is protected under the United States
Copyright Laws and International Treaty Provisions. Your support of
Shareware is appreciated.

INTRODUCTION
Have you ever wondered just what all those compressed files were in your
download directory?? What is more frustrating, not knowing what those
zip files are or having to unzip the DIZ file from each one just to find
out it was not the file you were looking for? Well now you won't have
to wonder, you have DIZVIEW!
This dynamic program will read each file_id.diz file from each ZIP file
in the directory of your choice. You can choose the wildcarding so you
only see the files you wish. If you find the file that you were looking
for you can unzip the file from within DIZVIEW to the directory of your
choice.
REQUIREMENTS
Only a couple of things are required to use DIZVIEW, they are:
1. A copy of PKUNZIP.EXE that resides somewhere in your path.
2. At least a FILES = 20 statement in your CONFIG.SYS file.
3. A TEMP variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This is optional if you
will only be running DIZVIEW in directories where you have write
access but if you wish to view the zip files on a CD-ROM you will
need to have this set. If you do not have a TEMP setting you can
add one to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file by inserting the following line
near the beginning:
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
The directory you specify must already exist.
OPTIONAL
1. You can use your mouse if it is installed. No actual pointer will
appear but by moving it up and down or side to side you will see
the cursor move on the screen.
USING DIZVIEW
To use DIZVIEW it is best to install it in a directory that resides
in your PATH so you can execute it from anywhere. When you execute
DIZVIEW it will search the directory that you are in for any files
matching *.ZIP.
Select VIEW to view the listing of files in the directory that match the
filespec. If you select the CHANGE button you can change the filespec
and directory to search.
When entering the filespec to change the search, DO NOT add the .ZIP
extension. But don't worry, if you do we will remove it anyway<g>.
You will notice that you have the choice of selecting .ZIP or .ARJ as
an extension, well not really though. When you register DIZVIEW you
will be able to search .ARJ files and print out all the descriptions in
your listing. We had to have something to entice you to register!
The print button will only work in the registered version.
Pressing the EXIT button or hitting ESCAPE will let you leave DIZVIEW.
When you are in DIZVIEW the right mouse button acts like the ESCAPE
key and will take you back one level from where you are in the system.
The F1 key is the help key.
HINTS/TIPS
Naturally since DIZVIEW is shelling out to DOS to open all of the DIZes
and loading them in, it takes a little time to do lots of files in one
directory. In a test of a CD-ROM that had 174 ZIP files on it we ran
two tests. The first using a TEMP of C:\DOS and it took 4 minutes and
40 seconds on a 386-33mHz machine with a double speed CD drive to search
all the zips for their respective DIZes. On the same machine using a
TEMP setting of D:\ where the D: drive was a RAM disk it took only
3 minutes and 20 seconds. So if you plan to use DIZVIEW a lot you may
want to set it up that way. You just have to remember though that other
programs use the TEMP directory to create temporary files and it may run
out of space for them.
If there are many files in your directory you may want to change the
file selection criteria to abc* to view only files that start with
ABC*.ZIP or ?B?????? to select all files that have the second character
of 'B'. Doing this will greatly speed up your search lookups.
